Canteen, M-1910 (1916)

Post by Joseph Farmer »

The M-1910 seamless canteens were made by A.G.M. The Ordnance Department's policy, at that time, is to make everything themselves. Given the method to make that canteen was patented, they needed to figure out another way. Making it in two pieces, and then welding it by hand, would clearly cost more but money wasn't an issue. In 1916, a drawing appears for a welded canteen. It took them a few years to figure out how to do it, from 1910 to 1916, but they did manage it.

This canteen is rarer than most would realize.

Given his service history, and the lack of markings on the canteen, it appears that the canteen was made after the A.G.M. seamless canteens, but before the WW1 contracted canteens. Which would make it pretty rare.
