Rock Island Arsenal Meat Cans and Utensils
Early on, before I understood it, I decided to make a complete set for each year. Note my nearly complete failure for 1906 and 1907. Also WW1. What I didn't understand, but do now, is they made the stuff individually. In FY05-06, they didn't make any utensils at all. They made the items as needed. FY12-13 witnessed 8,152 spoons made. FY13-14 had 151,960 spoons made. I'm swimming in spoons from 1914.
I'm missing a knife from 1912. FY12-13 was a very low production year for everything.
In FY03-04, 313,160 forks were made. 25,000 the following year. None the following year.
While they made the cans during WW1, they didn't make utensils. Chance of having complete sets for those years is thus zero.
The imbalance is extreme. While 313,160 forks were made in FY03-04, 175,760 knives were produced, along with 110,160 spoons. Why so few spoons? They'd made those, but not knives or forks, the previous year.
Knowing that now, I'm kind of surprised at how far I did get. 1907 is the only year pan I do not have. 4,000 made in FY07-08. For comparison, 136,589 aluminum ones were made in FY10-11.
