This replaces that.

This replaces that. The Krag rifle replaced the trapdoor. The Krag was replaced by the M-1903.

That is kind of right and kind of wrong. When the M-1903 was introduced, not everybody gets it on day 1. It takes years to make the change. You still have to support the old stuff.

Let's say you have a unit in action in WW2. Armored battalion. After being in the line for 6 months, they're pulled out. Re-arm and refit. What do you do? The logical thing to do is have them dump all their gear over on the left. Draw all new stuff on the right. This ensures they have all working equipment. The old stuff is sent to the depots for inspection and rebuild. That stuff will be issued to others later. This is also the way to introduce new stuff.

44th Armored battalion gets new gear. Turns in the old. It goes to the depot for inspection and rebuild.
57th Armored battalion still has the old stuff. The stuff reworked at the depot, from the 44th, is available to the 57th until they too are re-equipped.
When the 57th is re-equipped, the stuff is given, after rebuild, to the 105th Reserve Training Tank Battalion. Not being first line, they can use the older stuff just fine.

The Hoffman attachment was replaced by the hook. The hook was replaced by that weird locking thing in the early 1900s. That was replaced by the M-1910 wire hook. Which gave way to the slide clip fastener in the late 1950s. All true.

Except they had to support the old stuff. Those with new gear received the hook. Those with old received the Hoffman. This is a fabrication order. These will be made new.

Another fabrication order. Same thing. Quantities a bit higher.
