With the "Model" on the M-1944, there had to be an earlier one. The M-1942. P.Q.D. 264. With that, too, having a "Model," we need to go back further.

P.Q.D. 34A. This has no "Model" code. Ergo, this is the original. So why the later ones? On nets, generally, they discovered that, while they could keep mosquitos out, they couldn't keep some tropical flies out.

The USMC used a lot more mosquito nets. Their nets were less expensive.
